Pearl Indian Burial Mounds located in Platte County Missouri
"Our sacred lands are all that remain keeping us connected to our place on Mother Earth, to our spirituality, our heritage and our lands; what’s left of them. If they take it all away, what will remain except a vague memory of a past so forgotten?"
- Our team has a very rare opportunity to address some very angry spirits reported to us by an archaeologist who often visits an Indian burial mound near Parkville Mo. In 1930 the Smithsonian, excavated these mounds and removed the remains from the sacred ground, it is reported, not many artifacts were recovered during the excavation, it was later discovered 13 years prior the mound had been raided and items taken. Over the years many people have come to see the mounds as builders buy more and more land around the mounds.
Now NAARS has mixed emotions when it comes to Indian Burial Grounds. While we as investigators always keep our minds open to all possibilities when it comes to anomalies. When our NAARS historian shared information on the mounds many areas of location and sites where documented evidence of artifacts collected as well as photos taken of skeletons still in their graves, where each artifact was recovered and where it is located in some museum, photos and sketches showed families buried together. The photos were quite disturbing and it angered many on our team. But our team must put aside any personal feelings we may have and put the investigation into motion.
Our investigation will take place Saturday 7:30am lead by a local archaeologist; it is quite a walk to the mounds. So we must carry only the equipment needed to do the investigation. We have elected to play Indian drums and singing from him POW POW in Quapaw to calm the spirits in to communicating with us. We will have digital recorders, 3 cameras, video recorder, EMF and KII. We have also elected to bring a few things not on most investigations, we have selected, cedar, white buffalo and sage a hawk feather as well as sweet tobacco as offerings to the spirits.
We will report all facts in this investigation as presented.

- Investigation August 15th, 2009
Julie and Debbe started the investigation by making contact with a guide who is a local archaeologist who know the exact location of the 4 Indian burial mounds named Pearl Mounds in Platte County Missouri. It is located near a farm; you must get permission to go upon property to climb the ridge where the mounds are located. During our road trip while following our guide a large red tailed hawk actually fly from one side of the road toward the side passenger side of the guides’ cars which surprised both Julie and Debbe who witnessed the near miss of the hawk flying toward the car.
Once we arrived at the farm our archaeologist guide, who wishes to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of this investigation and location of mounds. We will call her Patty. Patty told us that the mounds were discovered back in 1930 by the owners of the land in which the Smithsonian institute conducted a archeological dig of the mounds in which very little was recovered as far as artifacts however the bones from the grave were remove and relocated to the institutes museum.
It was also discover the mound had been raid 10 years prior to the dig in 1930, the graves have since been robbed many times over the years.
The four mounds are located upon the highest ridge in a deeply wooded area. It took the team about 40 mins to climb the ridge to where the mounds are located. We had to break many branches to mark our trail in order to get back to the farm house.
Very strange things could be heard while making our way through the woods, we heard voices, whispers and singing, chanting and heard thudding on the ground like heavy foots steps, at one point Julie's bag she was carrying began to speak...the digital recorder in her bag, when she removed it, was in the LOCKED position therefore it is unknown why the recorder played. About 5 mins later another recorder in her bag began to play; it was also in LOCKED position when retrieved from the bag at this time we decided to turn our digital recorders on for the duration of the investigation.
Once we reached the 1st mound we began our investigation by making an offering to the spirits, sweet tobacco, burin cedar in a shell and pow pow drums and singing (recorded earlier using a tape recording form the Quapaw powpow investigation) We used the recording as a way of communicating with them.
We investigated all four mounds and Debbe found an unrecorded mound, a 5th mound located some 1500 feet from the 4th and final mound remains untouched by vandals or archaeologists. Debbe felt as if she knew she was supposed to go this way and that way through the woods, her personal experience is that she felt she was being led to this spot by unknown forces she cannot explain. Julie also heard strange sounds in the woods, chanting at one point.
The pictures taken are very hard to in vision since the mounds are somewhat under ground and surrounded by lime stone rocks and all the mound contained one single cedar tree growing from he very middle of the mound.
The investigation started at 7:30am and ended at 11:39am. The temperature outside was 75 to 78 degrees, high humidity, low winds. There was no trail to follow and the woods were very think and over grown with knee high weeds. We had no significant EMF readings during the investigation.
Photo
Although the picture is blurred, the photo was taken of the woods in random shots one after another, this one is curious to the team however it is not known if it is paranormal but we are posting it for anyones's input.
